Dear Fifth Grade Students and Parents,
A little bit about my teaching style. I believe students should be taught using a variety of different techniques, such as technology integrated activities, hands-on materials, experiments, lecture, note-taking, listening, etc. I have a fun, but structured, class where my goal is to teach.
When it comes to
discipline, my students understand that my classroom is a learning
environment first. There are consequences for actions when rules are
broken in the classroom. I treat each student fairly and all students
may not be disciplined in the exact same manner. It all depends on the
situation.
I need the support of parents to help students. I welcome parents to come visit, volunteer or observe me teach. Please take the time to read, practice math facts and go over homework with your child. These things are essential to their success!
I know that you are going to find fifth grade interesting, challenging, exciting, and a whole lot of fun! Our theme for the year is “????.” During this year we will be looking at various journeys in novels, in history, in science, as well as our own life journeys. We will be studying the American colonies and the American Revolution, learning about the various systems in the human body, challenging ourselves with mathematical concepts, expanding our writing skills, creating projects for classroom presentations, learning new technology skills and attending field trips and so much more!
Below you will find a list of recommended supplies I would like you to bring with you on the first day of school. In addition to the supplies, I would like you to bring the book that you are reading right now. If you are not currently reading a book, start thinking about the kinds of books that you would like to read. We can go to the library and find a good one for you!
By the time you receive this letter, I will already be busy getting the classroom ready, organizing materials, and preparing for our year together. School begins Wednesday, August ?. This will be a minimum day with 11:45am dismissal. I also hope you can join us for Sneak-a-Peek on Monday, August ?. The new family orientation is also Monday, August? from ?pm. I am very eager to meet all of you!! Enjoy the rest of your summer and start looking forward to the beginning of the school year!
I am looking for to meeting each of you!
Kindest Regards,
Mrs. Pike
