Student Activity 1 Letter about Statue of Liberty Fieldtrip
In this activity the student will search the websites about the Statue of Liberty. After completing this virtual fieldtrip, they will write a letter to their grandmother. This letter will include the five parts of a friendly letter date, salutation, body, closing, and signature. (Writing Applications 2.2)

the Statue of Liberty. The students will click on the images and record
some of the details that they see.
Student Activity 2 English & Spanish Words
The children will go to this site and
explore word meanings from English to Spanish. They will understand the purpose of various reference
materials (Research: 1.3) as they
experience the use of a this electronic bilingual dictionary. The student
will be able to expand on the multicultural vocabulary experience
introduced in the book Abuela. The students will list 3 nouns and 3
verbs in both English and Spanish. The will then identify and correctly use these words in a
sentence (Sentence Structure 1.1)
underlining the nouns and circling the verbs.

Comments: This site is very user friendly for the
primary student. The children simply click on a letter. They will then be
given several English words with their Spanish translations. Some of the
verbs are animated to assist the students in finding the action
words.
Student Activity 3- The Family Tree Storyboard
Students create a storyboard of an experience that they had with their grandmother or any other family member. They will recount experiences in a logical sequence [Listening and Speaking Strategies 1.7] as they share the storyboards with the class.
