Special Education resources and technology links
Texthelp.org has list of resources you might find helpful working with technology and special education. This sight is worth looking at from resources, research list, and grants. Remember each student is unique and what works for one student may not work for another. They have some great products but it may not be the best for your student review other products before investing money and time learning the product. Talk with other resources teachers, special education technology trainers and of course your IEP team, parents and student.
For example you might find the student can not stand to hear a computer voice when something is read aloud to him/her. Review all products that are available and test it out with your student before purchasing the product.
Autism Students technology links
Anyone interested in 3D modeling software by Google some Autism students have done well with this free software. Google SketchUp software shows a video and has a link to the free software along with examples of designed by other autistic individuals.

National Links:
The Disability Rights Education & Defense Fund (DREDF) site (www.dredf.org) provides advocacy help for Californians with disabilities. The site lists numerous selection criteria that can be used to qualify students for services. The DREDF provides legal advocacy and children and family advocacy services as well as conducting research and interacting with the media to further disability rights.
The National Dissemination Center for Children with Disabilities (NICHCY) (www.nichcy.org ) is a great source of information and help. The NICHCY provides information on serving children with disabilities from infancy forward including how to understand and navigate education regulations and how they pertain to students with disabilities. Information and services are available in English and Spanish and include access to research, grants, education opportunities and more.
Bookshare (www.bookshare.org) is a web-based service that offers access to a large collection of electronic books and is available at no cost to students with disabilities. Bookshare also provides screen reading software and other services that make books accessible for students with a wide range of disabilities. Bookshare currently offers more than 70,000 titles and is continually growing.
Autism Speaks (www.autismspeaks.org) is dedicated to providing information, tools, and resources to improve the lives of individuals and families affected by autism. Autism Speaks provides monthly newsletters, social networking and operates a resource library to help coordinate information on autism. Autism speaks also offers help for financially disadvantaged children to attend summer camps.
Assistive Technology web links for parents and educators:
Assistive technology is filling the gap and changing lives of students. Using computers as a tool to help provide solutions for students. Technology can help bridge the gap of all students with disablitities. Chico State University moto is "Today decides tomorrow" with the technology today we can help students prepair for their future (their tomorrows). Technology can help students gain confidence while preparing for their future and dreams.

Resources for Northern California
There are a number of local and regional services including the Independent Living Services of Northern California (ILSNC) (www.ilsnc.org/) which provides role models and peer support to help assist individuals with disabilities to successfully live independently. Other local services include the
Butte County Special Education Local Plan Area (SELPA) (www.bcoe.org/selpa/Resources-Info/default.htm) which provides workshops, training and peer support to advocate for students with disabilities.
